Hyperspectral Indices for Predicting Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Maize Hybrids

چکیده

Enhancing the nitrogen (N) efficiency of maize hybrids is a common goal researchers, but involves repeated field and laboratory measurements that are laborious costly. Hyperspectral remote sensing has recently been investigated for measuring predicting biomass, N content, grain yield in maize. We hypothesized vegetation indices (HSI) obtained mid-season through hyperspectral could predict whole-plant biomass per unit taken up by plants (i.e., conversion efficiency: NCE) plant internal NIE). Our objectives were to identify best HSI end-of-season NCE NIE, rank selected HSI, evaluate effect decreased spatial resolution on values hybrid rankings. Analysis 20 from imaging at V16/18 R1/R2 manned aircraft UAVs over three site-years using mixed models showed two indices, HBSI1 HBS2, predictive NCE, HBCI8 HBCI9, NIE actual data collected five nine maturity. Statistical differentiation their or performance was possible based with greatest accuracy NIE. Lastly, decreasing changed values, an not evident.

evaluation of water and photosynthetic nitrogen use efficiency in two maize hybrids

water deficit and low nitrogen content of soil are the two major yield limiting factors in most maize (zea mays l.) producing areas. the objective of the current research was to evaluate the relationships between photosynthetic water and nitrogen use efficiency at different levels of soil moisture and nitrogen contents. a factorial experiment, based on completely randomized design with 3 replic...

Physiological and Genetic Mechanisms for Nitrogen-Use Efficiency in Maize

Due to the strong influence of nitrogen (N) on plant productivity, a vast amount of N fertilizers is used to maximize crop yield. Over-use of N fertilizers leads to severe pollution of the environment, especially the aquatic ecosystem, as well as reducing farmer's income. Growing of N-efficient cultivars is an important prerequisite for integrated nutrient management strategies in both lowand h...

Assessment Maize Hybrids Response to Biological and Chemical Nitrogen Fertilizers

This research set out to evaluate the effect of combined biological and chemical nitrogen fertilizers on some corn hybrids. To this end an experiment was conducted as split plot on the basis of randomized complete block design with four replications. Main plots were included: use of chemical and biological fertilizers in four levels: 100% chemical fertilizer, 75% chemical fertilizer + 100% bio-...

Biotechnology Approaches to Improving Maize Nitrogen Use Efficiency

Nitrogen (N) is an essential and often limiting nutrient to plant growth. Maize grain yields are highly responsive to supplemental N, leading to annual application of an estimated 10 million metric tons of N fertilizer to the maize crop worldwide (FAO 2004). Nearly all cultivated maize in developed countries receives some form of N fertilizer and N use is increasing in developing countries, whe...

Cultivar Differences in Root Nitrogen Uptake Ability of Maize Hybrids

Although, considerable differences in root size in response to nitrogen (N) application among crop species and cultivars have been widely reported, there has been limited focus on the differences in root N uptake ability. In this study, two maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids, Zhenghong 311 (ZH 311, N-efficient) and Xianyu 508 (XY 508, N-inefficient), were used to compare differences in root N uptake a...
